Punjab: Managing Agricultural Resources
The government of Punjab had provided recommendation for changing of cropping pattern from rice to maize in the state of Punjab. They provided a comprehensive plan for each district for the next six years based on the existing cropping pattern. The following image describes the recommendation of changing the area under rice to maize over the period of six years. The task was to understand the change in energy use if the recommendations are followed. The following image shows the change in energy used based on government of Punjab recommendations. A total of 14% drop was seen by changing the rice area to maize in the region for a period of seven years. The amount saved could be used for planning irrigation canals or other efficient techniques of agriculture.
